On September 1, 2017, oceanographer Pedro M S Pereira defended his thesis entitled: The Sedimentation in Baixo da Boca do Rio, Salvador, Bahia, a prerequisite for obtaining a Master’s degree in Marine, Coastal, and Sedimentary Geology from the Federal University of Bahia.
His thesis was developed under the supervision of Professor Dr. José Maria Landim Dominguez, a national reference in marine geology, and consisted of extensive research on a sedimentary accumulation present on the continental shelf of Salvador. This deposit is directly influenced by submarine outfalls that are responsible for the discharge of domestic effluents from the city. Moreover, an evolution model of this feature during the Quaternary period was proposed.
Pedro had his thesis approved and a scientific article should be published with the results presented, in addition to a new model for classifying muddy depocenters present on the continental shelf of Northeast Brazil.
