World Ocean Day was created during Rio-92, the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.
The purpose of this day is to remember the importance of the ocean for the balance of life on Earth. To do so, various activities are carried out to raise awareness about the threats the ocean currently faces.
On this day, oceanographer Pedro Pereira participated in a discussion table about Salvador’s Submarine Outfalls: When the solution becomes a problem.
The event was held at the Institute of Geosciences, Federal University of Bahia, and was attended by professors Miguel Accioly and Asher Kiperstok (UFBA) and technician Eduardo Fiorentini (IBAMA).
